William, Star du Neufmoulin fr Montelle has certainly been having a busy summer. With the return of showing, his owner, Ann Bradley, has finally been able to get him in the ring and to great aclaim, with a number of titles now under his belt. Not only has he been busy with showing, but he has also been engaged with the bitches of Neletoile.
His pairing with Scout was a success and we welcomed a litter to the Kennel mid June that safely departed to new homes mid August. We are finding that one of the hardest parts of breeding is making sure the puppies are going to great homes. Having a questionnaire that makes people think about the reality of having a puppy and a future life with an active dog is such an integral part of this process. Not only does it allow us to establish a clear idea of the life the puppies are going to, it also makes the prospective new owners consider the impact this will have on their lives. We know that we have managed to achieve this again for Scouts litter with some fabulous new owners.
Whilst rearing Scouts litter, Nellie came into season again and so she and I embarked on another visit to Montelle. William and Nellie were very affectionate with each other and a succesfull mating was achieved. Success is now confirmed with the arrivel of Nellie's 2nd litter.
Now the process of vetting the prospective owners begins again. The waiting list is not quite as long as it was at the start of the summer, but it still outstrips the litter size. With such amazing people seeming to want to own an Irish Terrier or add a playmate to their existing IT or come back to the breed after a break, it is really fulfilling to know that our efforts will continue to bring such joy and happiness to the lives of so many people for years to come.
